Accessibility Statement

At Aotearoa Disability Law, accessibility is at the heart of what we do.

This Accessibility Statement outlines how we’ve built accessibility into our website and services – and how we’re continually working to improve.

Our Commitment to Accessibility

We want everyone who visits our website to feel welcome and supported. That’s why we’ve designed it to be as inclusive, user-friendly, and easy to navigate as possible. To help us do this, we follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) – the internationally recognised standards for digital accessibility. These come in three levels: A (essential), AA (inclusive), and AAA (exceptional). Our goal is to meet Level AA as our standard.

We also draw on the New Zealand Government Web Standards and the lived experiences of our diverse team. In short, if something makes the site easier to use, read, or understand – we’re doing our best to include it.

Our website has been built with accessibility in mind, with input and guidance from dedicated accessibility professionals, to help ensure it works for as many people as possible.

What We’re Doing

Here are a few things you’ll notice:

Formats – Screen reader-friendly documentation and NZSL videos.

Images – We add alt text so screen reader users don’t miss out. (If you spot one, we’ve missed, give us a nudge!)

Files – We’re digital-first, so we keep downloads to a minimum. If you need a file in a different format, just ask.

Browsers & Devices – Our site works across all the big browsers and plays nicely on iOS and Android.

Screen Sizes – Whether you’re on a phone, tablet, laptop, or giant desktop, we’ve tested the breakpoints, so it all stays tidy.

Our Services

Our team of lawyers, advocates, and educators have significant experience in working with members of the Deaf and Disabled community who may have challenges in communicating or receiving information.

Our lawyers can provide reasonable accommodations to ensure that you are able to receive the best service, whether that is by using NZSL interpreters, ensuring documents are in a format that is accessible to you, or using your preferred method of communication.

Our legal education team has experience in delivering legal education to a wide range of disabled and non-disabled audiences and can tailor a legal education session to meet the specific needs of the audience, including creating legal education material in Easy Read formats, or delivering legal education in NZSL.

Your Feedback Matters

Accessibility is an ongoing journey, not a one-time fix. If you come across anything that’s not quite right, notice something unusual, or have a suggestion to improve the site – we want to hear it. Get in touch with us, and we’ll let you know how we’ve responded to your feedback.

A Final Note

Look around, explore the site, and (hopefully) enjoy the experience. We’ve put a lot of care into making this space as welcoming and easy to use as possible for everyone.
