Who can use advocacy support services?
This service is for Deaf and disabled people in New Zealand who need support advocating for themselves in areas like housing, benefits, and tenancy disputes.
We work with Deaf and disabled New Zealanders who have a legal issue related to their disability, who can't otherwise access a lawyer. *This is subject to our resources and staffing capacity.
If you need support to advocate for yourself, our Community Advocate may be available to help you prepare, communicate, and navigate the system.

What can our advocate help you with?
Our Advocate is not a lawyer, but they may be available to support you by helping you understand your rights, prepare for meetings, and ensure your voice is heard. We can help with:
- WINZ and benefits – For example, understanding entitlements, preparing for WINZ meetings, and making sure WINZ considers the right benefits.
- Relocation – Legal challenges around moving to a new home or care setting.
- Tenancy support – For example, dealing with noisy neighbours, requesting accessibility modifications, or understanding tenancy rights.
Our ADL advocate does not undertake Court work. If Court becomes the next step in your matter, then we will try to find you a lawyer who is able to undertake this for you.
If you need advocacy support, get in touch today.
